Why to Study the Bible

As we have learned, many events told in the Bible are based on historical happenings. However, unlike other books of history, the Bible does not focus on accurate descriptions of these events. Instead, the writers of the Bible concentrate on the meaning of these events. They read, in the events, the Word of God and his intervention. They teach us lessons about God and His intervention. They teach us lessons about ourselves, that we can make ourselves better and our world a better place to live in if we follow the teachings of Jesus.

A study of the Bible, therefore, leads us to an awareness of the plan of salvation that God worked out for us to free us from all types of evil. Hopefully, this awareness will inspire us to live a life that will make it possible for us to be happy with God in heaven forever.
Through the Bible, we try to find answers to questions about present events like widespreadd pollution and global misunderstanding. We discover that God continues to speak to us as He spoke to the prophets. We recognize signs of His intervention.
The Bible is the Word of God to all mankind. Reading God's Word and thinking deeply about it helps us to know and love God more. It makes us want to pattern our lives according to what we learn from the Holy Scriptures.
The Bible can help us grow if we do the following:
1. Study the Bible.
Take time to read it. Listen carefully when it is read in church.
2. Share the Bible.
Read and discuss it with friends and members of the family.
3. Love the Bible.
Pray the Bible prayers and listen to the Word of God as it affects you in your daily life.
Studying the Bible can be one of our most interesting activities. There is always more to learn and think about. And before we know it, God's Word has already become part of our lives.
This is why we read, study and treasure the Bible as the most precious book of all time.
